These are the photos i have took so that I can chose one to use for my double page spread before editing them. I have told my model to wear black to emphasise 'the darkest days' so that it all links in.

Main Task: Proof of Album Covers

Both of these albums are what I have, this is to prove that I have taken photos of the cover of the album so that I can use it on my Contents Page.

Main Task: Contents Page Drafts and Final

This is my first draft for my Contents Page. I used typical conventions of a existing magazine by separating each section into categories so that it looks professional and is known to the audience as a music magazine. I have used more than one image which is also conventional, however I have moved away from conventions by making the images small, and on one side, rather than making the audience focus to the pictures only.

This is my second draft for my Contents Page. I changed the background colour so that it looked like it was all together whereas it was misleading with the white background. Also I made the banner at the side one colour so that it looked more professional. I think i have made my contents page look better with the numbers the same colour as the font as it looks more professional and follows conventions.

For making my final draft, I have put text at the top above the 'contents' title so that it fills space and looks better. Also, to make the 'On The Cover' section stand out and for the double page spread article to stand out, I put all of the text in white but left that in the brown colour. This draws the attention to there and intrigues the audience. Also to make my magazine look better, I put a black background for the banner on the right hand side because I think it stands out more and looks more professional. Another thing I have changed is the numbers of my articles so that they aren't in order because when I looked at existing magazines I noticed it was unconventional.

Main Task: Forte Cover Photo Drafts and Final product

This is my first draft of my cover page.

This is a better draft where I have made the kicker easier to see and changed the banner on the bottom so that it is easier and more fomal. Also I have put an outline around the main cover story so that it stands out. I have changed the colour of the text about Chris Brown and new singer so that it looks more professional and appeals to my target audience more.

To get my final cover photo, I made changes to make it look better and more professional by changing the background as I feel this doesn't look formal or professional and doesn't attract the target audience as well as it could. Also one of the cover stories mentions Biddulph, and with peer feedback, I was told that it shouldn't inlcude local areas as it wouold be distributed further than this. I took away the outline and made the cover story all one colour so that it stands out more, also it didn't follow any conventions of real music magazines.

Main Task: Photos I have used

These are the photos I have used on my final products because they fit with the genre as the type of images are used in Vibe and Q magazines so that the magazine looks professional.
The clothing fits in with the double page spread story with her darkest days growing up so it all links in together and looks professional.

Main Task: Photoshoot shortlist

These are the images that I had shortlisted from my photoshoot of my model, I had chose these because they fit with my genre with Sasha wearing a colourful top but then to fit in with the cover story of the 'darkest days' I got my model to wear black clothing.
I followed conventions from real existing magazines such as Vibe, Q and Billboard so that i could be inspired by these to make my magazine look real and look professional so that my target audience would be attracted to these.

Main Task: STEAM --> FORTE

I changed the title of my magazine from 'STEAM' to 'FORTE' because Forte is more relevant to music. This will allow the audeince to know it is a music magazine.
Also the font has been changed because it looks more sophisticated and looks more formal as a music magazine font.
There is no meaning of Steam so it doesn't relate to music as much as I could of made it, as I haven't linked anything to the title. So to make my magazine better, I have used a word which means a loud passage in music, so as my genre is RnB it has a lot of upbeat music so it will relate to the magazine more.

Main Task: Language and Register

For my final media products, I have used considered language and register in order to create my Double Page Spread interview. As my target audience is aimed at teenagers, I figured that I shouldn’t use too much typography and should limit the words used so that I remain intriguing the audience so that I don’t distract them from reading the interview. Although my target audience is teenagers, meaning I have used low register, which is informal although I have still used the correct grammar and proper punctuation and vocabulary. The article is relevant to the title and all links together so that my audience will keep on reading it.

My article includes topics such as:-

-          How Sasha became famous.

-          Why Sasha has had ‘dark days’.

-          Her new album.

-          How the songs relate to her life.

-          What she hopes for in the future.

Main Task: Plan of Double Page spread

This is how I will plan my double page spread, I have done it like this so that it looks like a real magazine cover story and it follows the conventions of magazines in my chosen genre.

Main Task: Plan of Contents Page

This is how i will plan my contents page, I have developed the conventions of a contents page in my genre by not overlapping any images however, I have also followed the conventions by seperating the sections of 'This Week', 'On The Cover' and the 'Regulars'.

Main Task: Plan of Cover Page

This is my plan of how i will structure the layout of my cover page. I have followed the conventions of a real music magazine with this layout so that it looks sophisticated but professional.

Main Task: Feedback from mock up products

I have asked a couple of my peers for feedback on my mock up covers, contents pages and for my double page spreads.

For my Front Covers, i received the following information:

All of them have good layouts; the headline stands out so you know what it is called with no images obstructing it. The article for the Chris Brown magazine stands out and it is clear who the article is talking about. The Usher article has a kicker so makes it more unique and differentiates it from others so is moving away from conventions. The photos on the Cover photos link with the font colour, so using skin tone to link it up and only uses a few colours. A good thing about the image used on the Usher magazine is that although the image is small, it still doesn't look out of place with the titles and headlines above.
However, bad points on this would be that the Chris Brown mock up needs more colour because it only uses grey colours, so it is a little bit plain. The bar code on the Drake magazine doesn't look in place, so it could be moved. On the Usher cover, the kicker could be moved a little bit down because it overlaps the photo. Also with this, the hat he is holding gets lost in the background colour.

Feedback for my Contents pages:

For my contents pages, the feedback resulted in advantages in how i presented my text and image, for instance no writing covers the image so it isn't obstructing it and is clear to see. Another positive aspect of one of my contents pages was that the page numbers are clear so it is well presented to the target audience. On the Beyonce contents, i received feedback that the colour scheme was good and all linked in and it was good to use her lipstick colour for the font colour on the title, kicker and the headlines. I was also told: 'a good use of using boxes around the features and this week, it makes it different and still looks sophisticated by linking together and it doesn't look out of place.
On the other hand i received feedback which will help me to develop ideas and improve. This included things like on the Iyaz contents, although the page numbers and text is clear, it looks like a list so i could make it look more intriguing to the audience. Also that the title is in a white box all across the page whereas the background is more of a beige colour so it doesn't look like it is connected together and doesn't link, from this i could make the box smaller around the contents page to make it stand out from the rest so it is clear it is a contents page.

The disadvantages of these however, were that the image on the Beyonce magazine, i could of made the picture bigger so that it fills up more space and doesn't look too plain. Also another bit of feedback on the Beyonce contents page that i received, was that i could make the writing bigger so that the background isn't as visible. I was told that for the contents page of Iyaz, i could add another photo so that it isn't just concentrating on him. Mainly because within the stories mentioned on the contents page, it includes Chris Brown, Usher, Drake and Rihanna. I used a kicker on the Contents page #3, i was told it was good and different, but i could be made bigger to stand out more and put in a different place.

Feedback from my double page spreads:

The disadvantages of the Drake double page spread are that i didn't include a headline so it is misleading to the audience as they won't know which story it is about. Also there is more text on one side so i should even it out so it looks easier to read and attracts the audience more. Where the image has a shadow, it covers some of the text so it could be unclear to read. Another disadvantage for this double page spread is that i shouldn't of blurred the image, i did this because it would take all the concentration from the image and evenly spread it between the text and image.

The advantages of this is that the image of Drake doesn't stand out but isn't all that the audience would look at when first glancing at the double page spread. The way i have contrasted the colours with black and grey colours i was told looks professional and fits well, not bringing all attention to one point. As well as this, i was told the way i have got the background colour from the colour of his t-shirt and handkerchief looks good.

Main Task: Mock up of Double page spread #1

This is my first mock up of a double page spread. I have blurred out the image so that not all the attention from the audience is on the image and focuses on the story line also. The back ground is from a shade of Drakes top in the image so that it links in and looks more sophisticated.

Main Task: Mock up of Contents Page #1

Main Task: Mock up of Cover Page #3

This is my third mock up of a cover page, here i have experimented with the picture and font colours by linking them all up with the image of Chris Brown by using his jacket colours, and his skin tone for font colour. This is conventional because it all links together and shows professionalism. on the other hand i have moved away from conventions of a typical music magazine by the layout of having a title which is transparent, therefore meaning it is only outlined in a differnt colour than the background. I have done this because i think it is more effective on the title and makes it stand out more.

Main Task: Mock up of Cover Page #2

This is another one of my mock ups of the cover page, I have used the conventions of a music magazine by positioning the masthead at the top of the cover page with the issue number and date of the magazine below it. However i have moved away from conventions by placing the bar code under the date and issue number and where normally there is a barcode i have positioned a kicker there. This is moving away from conventions because most magazines do not use them, so i have done this to make mine more unique and to stand out.

Main Task: Mock up of Cover Page #1

This is one of my mock ups of the cover page, here i have experimented with the picture and font colours. I have used the conventions of a music magazine by positioning the masthead at the top of the cover page. However i have moved away from conventions by placing the bar code above the image. Also the image shot i have used is of Drakes' full body but kneeled down, this is different from other magazines because they usually show medium to close up shots and are also mainly standing shots. Also another way in which i haven't used a typical convention is by not putting any writing over the image, this is so that it makes the writing as well as the picture easier to read and see and makes them stand out.

Main Task: Magazine Fonts

The fonts I will use throughout my tasks is called 'Bernard MT Condensed'. This is for the typography on my Cover Page and my Contents Page. For my double page spread I have used 'Myriad Pro'. Both of these fonts are easily readable and look sopisticated which will appeal to my audience, this is because my target market are teenagers so it is modern.
For the title of my magazine 'Forte' I have used a font from dafont.com called 'Postcard From Mars'.

These are my ideas which i began with for my masthead, and from these i asked 10 people and the majority of people said the second idea of Grey writing on white background, so therefore with this i have chosen to use that masthead style.

Main Task: Magazine Ideas (Titles, Fonts, Target Audience)

Titles
For this task, my genre for the magazine is RnB, i have started to brainstorm ideas for the title of the magazine. My ideas are:-

    • Steam: I have chosen 'Steam' because in performances they have the steam machines so it is relevant to the type of music. Also i could link in the photo with the title and meaning

    • String: I have chosen 'string' cause it relates to guitar strings so it interprets music and would be noticable as a music magazine

    • Collision: I have chosen this from a website called 'Band Name Maker' and it seems a logic name for an RnB magazine because of the instrumentals and vocals which collide within songs.
From primary market research, information that i recieved showed me that 60% said that 'Steam' was the best name to use. 35% said that Sting was good to use and that 15% said i should use collision.

Fonts
When i picked my font, i shortlisted down to 3 fonts. From researching into asking 10 people, and 7 said to use the font called 'Benard MT Condensed', 2 said they prefered the font 'Fine Again' and one person said they prefered a font called 'CF Back to School'.

Target Audience
My target audience for my media product will be aimed at people who enjoy RnB music, both female and male and young people so teenagers. I will do this by using a model who is at a similar age to them to attract them in, and i will use bright, vibrant colours so it suits the target audience.

Main Task: Target Market survey analysis

This is my question 1, I asked whether they are female or male so that I could aim my media product to the most responded answer. So my results show that the most answeres were female.

Question 2 was asking about their age so that I know who to present my magazine to, from this my results show that 2 out of 3 people were 13-17. This will mean that I will present my product to teenagers and to do this I will follow conventions from existing media products.

My results from question 3 tell me that most of the people enjoy listening to RnB music therefore meaning my genre will be RnB to attract the right people.

My question 4 shows that 2 out of 3 people prefer a digital copy rather than a physical copy, from this I will make a digital copy available on apps such as Apple Apps, Samsung Apps so it is available to download on iPads, iMacs, iPhones, Android phones.
